Contemporary Modern

Contemporary Modern is a multi-room furnishings project in Prior Lake, MN, created for a busy family of four who waited years to build their dream home. Dwell & Gather designed several of the home’s core spaces—including the entryway, living room, dining room, and a surprise lounge tucked beneath a dramatic open staircase. Initially overlooked, the lounge became one of the most distinctive moments in the home, featuring vertical wood cladding, a custom live art installation, and west-facing views made for sunset cocktails.

While the architecture leans modern, the clients wanted the home to feel comfortable, durable, and warmly layered. Inspired by their favorite mountain getaways, the design blends earthy tones, soft textures, and custom high-performance fabrics that can handle real life (and lively hosting). To keep the open-concept layout connected yet purposeful, each zone is anchored with function-first furnishings—like strategically placed swivel chairs that let conversation flow between the living and lounge areas. The result is polished and personal: contemporary, inviting, and effortlessly livable.
