Meet Local Interior Designer Theresa Lamb

Sometimes, the best journeys take unexpected turns. For me, the dream of being a local interior designer began long before I even realized it! In 2005, while my husband and I were building our first home, a seed was planted—one that would take years of life experiences, challenges, and faith to grow into the thriving business I have today. Now, Dwell and Gather Interiors helps serve clients all across Minneapolis and beyond, and my cup is filled every day doing what I get to do!

From Corporate Dreams to Creative Realization

In the early 2000s, I had a very clear vision for my future: by 35, I would be a Vice President in corporate marketing, married with 4 kids, a dog, and a white picket fence by the ocean. But life had other plans, as it so often does! As my husband’s career led us to new cities, we started purchasing fixer-uppers in great neighborhoods. Along the way, I became my own local interior designer, transforming outdated homes into beautiful, welcoming spaces.

My work started catching the attention of builders and contractors (and even my husband), who encouraged me to take the next steps in offering design services to others. Still, my focus remained on other ambitions—until 2020, when a move across town and a little nudge from my supportive husband set everything in motion. “You have a gift,” he told me. “You should start a business.” And so I went back to college- this time for interior design!

That was the beginning of Dwell & Gather Interior Design. I, along with a friend from church, officially established it in 2021, but it wasn’t until 2023 that I fully launched. My vision wasn’t just to create a design studio offering design inspiration, but to build something bigger—a faith-based community driven by a mission to help people live better and love the spaces they call home. Through thoughtful design, exceptional craftsmanship, and a personal touch, we aim to create environments that inspire connection and reflect the unique stories of the families who live in them

What Sets Dwell & Gather Interior Design Apart

For me, interior design is about more than creating beautiful spaces—it’s a way to serve others and honor God by using the gifts and talents He’s given me. I genuinely enjoy getting to know my clients, understanding their stories, and collaborating to create a vision that reflects their unique personality and journey.

Each project is an opportunity to craft a home that isn’t just beautiful but deeply meaningful—a space where life, love, and memories are celebrated.

My design approach comes from my own experiences. Growing up, I often felt shy about my humble background. That memory drives my passion for helping others see past the “forest for the trees” and achieve a design style they never thought possible.

Faith is also the heartbeat of Dwell & Gather. Every Monday, my team and I pray for every client—past, present, and future as well as the talented builders, architects, tradespeople, and vendors who help bring these homes to life. Having a team that shares these values grounds everything we do in purpose and love.

The Creative Process

My favorite part of the design process is the creative aspect: imagining how a space can be transformed. I love pulling together all of my design inspiration from what my client is looking to do. But, if I’m being honest, that’s only about 10% of what I do! The other 90% is running the business side of design, which is its own adventure full of lessons. Every project teaches me something new!

Favorite Interior Design Projects and Big Dreams

One project that’s close to my heart is the DeepHAVEN Home. The clients were friends first and trusted me even before I completed my interior design degree. They believed in my vision and have continued to support and advocate for Dwell & Gather. Referrals are the best compliments! They are even repeat clients and it’s such an honor to be a small part of their story.

Looking ahead, I have big dreams for Dwell & Gather Interiors, including taking our full-service interior design firm and expanding into other states. I also would love to someday start a nonprofit focused on creating fresh starts for families in need.

When I’m Not Designing…

You’ll find me cheering on my son at his soccer and football games or trying not to be a “dance mom” at my daughter’s recitals. I love the outdoors, volunteering, traveling, and any chance to visit the ocean. While I don’t dance, sing, and play piano or violin as much as I’d like these days, those creative outlets remain a beloved part of my life.

And who knows? Maybe Broadway is still in the cards… right? 😊
