How We Created a Soothing Medical Spa Interior Design for Beyond Wellness

Ever step into a space and feel an instant sense of calm? That’s exactly the experience we wanted to create at Beyond Wellness, a well-rounded. wellness center just outside the twin cities close to Woodbury, MN where founder, Dr Erika Way DC, DCBCN is dedicated to helping patients feel their absolute best—inside and out. 

When Dr. Erika had a dream to expand her practice, she had one big goal: to have an inviting space where patients feel safe, loved, empowered, and ultimately can transform! She immediately reached out to us to help design her new space! 

Spanning 2,700 square feet, this wellness oasis, beautifully blends holistic health with thoughtful interior design. Let’s take a peek inside and see what makes this space so special!

A Space Rooted in Healing

Dr. Erika’s approach to wellness goes beyond just treating symptoms—she focuses on the root causes of health concerns. With Beyond Wellness, she envisioned a space where patients could access a variety of holistic therapies, from Chiropractic care, to functional medicine to hyperbaric oxygen therapy and even the Harmonic Egg (trust me, it’s as cool as it sounds!).

To bring this vision to life, she partnered with us at Dwell & Gather Interiors, and together, we designed a space that feels as good as the treatments themselves. Our goal? To make every patient feel at ease, supported, and ready to embrace their wellness journey.

Designing with Purpose

Every design decision was crafted with comfort, flow, patient experience, and balance in mind. Here’s how we did it:

Easy Flow

A well-designed wellness center should be effortless to navigate. We created open, inviting layouts that feel balanced and welcoming.

All-Natural 

Natural materials like reclaimed wood, metals, and moss bring the outdoors in—because there’s healing in natural elements—like reclaimed wood, metals, and moss—bring warmth and a grounding energy to the space. One of our favorite design elements? The stunning reception desk is handcrafted with vertical wood slats and a live moss art installation by @tyhitchcockcreates. It’s an absolute showstopper!

Calming Colors

A soft, earthy, and neutral color palette of blues and greens was the perfect choice for this medical spa design. These hues don’t just look pretty—they promote relaxation, renewal, and a sense of connection to nature.

A Cozy, Homey Feel

No one wants to sit in a cold, clinical waiting room. Instead, we brought in plush seating, textured wallpaper, dimmable, soft lighting, and candles to create a warm, inviting ambiance and an incredible patient experience. It’s the kind of place where you can truly unwind and enjoy the aesthetic appeal—even while waiting for an appointment.

Feng Shui Touches

Small medical spa design details can make a big impact on the design process! We incorporated water features (to encourage abundance), vertical elements (for growth), and symbolic shapes (squares for strong relationships) to enhance the space’s energy flow and create an unforgettable client experience.

Overcoming Medical Spa Interior Design Challenges

No construction project is without its surprises, and this one was no exception! But challenges are just opportunities in disguise, right? Whether it was shifting timelines or adjusting design choices on the fly, our design team kept things moving (and reassured our client that the chaos of construction would all be worth it! IYKYK!)—and the end result? A space her clients have deemed as “calming”, “tranquil” and “safe”.

From the gorgeous work of our skilled carpenter, our art commissioned by Ty Hitchcock Creates to the stunning photography by Chelsie Lopez Productions, and of course the ethos of a well-designed space, every detail worked together to create a space that just feels right.
