When people see the final photos of a beautifully designed home, they see the finished product: beautifully layered spaces, thoughtfully selected furnishings, and rooms that feel effortlessly inviting.
What they don’t see are the months of planning, countless design decisions, close collaboration with architects and builders, careful coordination with vendors and trades, and one incredibly intentional installation that brings it all together.
Quick answer: An interior design installation day (sometimes called a furnish and decor install) is the day a design team delivers, assembles, and styles every piece of furniture, art, and decor in a home at once, so the space goes from empty or under-construction to fully finished in a single coordinated push. It’s the final step after months of sourcing and planning, and it’s usually completed in one to three days.
Whether we’re completing a custom new build, putting the finishing touches on a large-scale renovation, or furnishing an entire home from top to bottom, installation is the final layer. It’s the moment when construction ends, the boxes disappear, and a house truly begins to feel like home.
And honestly? It’s one of our favorite days.
It Starts Long Before Install Day
By the time our team pulls into your driveway, we’ve already spent months dreaming, planning, sourcing, refining, and coordinating every detail.
Every sofa has been measured. Every rug has been selected to anchor the room. Every light fixture, accessory, piece of artwork, and pillow has been chosen with intention.
We’ve tracked orders, coordinated deliveries, communicated with vendors, inspected furniture, handled delays, solved problems, and developed a detailed installation plan so that everything comes together as seamlessly as possible.
What Installation Day Actually Looks Like
The house becomes our canvas. Here’s the general rhythm of an install day (or days).
Install day starts early. (I make sure to grab the team coffee on the way!)
We usually arrive with a truck and cars full of the accessories we’ve spent months collecting. We get our workout in loading and unloading everything into the home. We organize all the accessories into different rooms: bedding goes into the bedrooms, built-in accessories go into the office or living room or wherever they’re needed, and bathroom and kitchen accessories are unloaded into their spaces. We place everything out to see it. I usually start with what I consider the hardest or most time-intensive spaces first. (You’d be surprised how long those built-ins take.)
The furniture truck arrives at some point throughout the day. Rugs are rolled out. Lamps are assembled. Artwork and mirrors are hung. Dining tables are set. Beds are layered with fresh linens.
For a day or two, your home looks less like a home and more like a beautiful mess. (Which is also why we ask homeowners to stay with friends or family during install dates. It’s organized chaos!)
Boxes everywhere. Wrapping paper piled high. Team members moving from room to room with purpose. Music playing. Occasional dancing, because life happens and dancing helps! And always coffee.
Ladders up. Power tools humming. Lots of laughs, and maybe a few frustrating moments we learn and grow from. Even last-minute runs to vendors for different items. (Yes, I want it to be perfect for you!)
And an incredible amount of teamwork.
The Details You Didn’t Know Matter
This is where the magic happens.
Styling isn’t about placing a vase on a shelf and calling it done. It’s adjusting the height of artwork by half an inch. It’s trying three different pillows before finding the perfect combination.
It’s moving a chair just enough to improve the conversation area, and editing rather than adding.
Sometimes we’ll style the same bookshelf four or five different ways before we all step back and say, “That’s it.”
Those tiny decisions are what create rooms that feel effortless, balanced, and collected instead of staged. They’re the details you may never consciously notice, but you’ll absolutely feel them every time you walk into the room.
Luxury Means Solving Problems Before You Ever See Them
Even with months of preparation, surprises happen. A lamp arrives with a damaged shade. A mirror doesn’t quite feel right once it’s on the wall. An accessory that looked perfect in the studio suddenly competes with another piece in your home.
Rather than asking you to figure it out, we do what we do every day: we pivot. We restyle. We go shopping day-of. We adjust.
The Moment It All Comes Together
When every pillow is fluffed. Every candle is lit. Every book is stacked. Every throw is draped. Every chair is perfectly placed.
We step back. Take a deep breath. And wait for you to walk through the door.
There is something incredibly special about watching our clients experience their home for the first time.
The smiles. The happy tears. The excitement. The moments of silence, or screaming, as they slowly walk from room to room, taking in details they never imagined.
