Nestled next to Lake Minnetonka sits the picturesque community of Deephaven, Minnesota where this East Coast Traditional remodel is a true testament to what a Minneapolis interior designer can do with collaboration and open reigns! Completed in 2023, this stunning project we brought together included thoughtful construction materials and finishes, curated custom furnishings, and organic décor to create the ultimate dream home for our clients. A Family Home Transformed
This family of six was bursting at the seams in their former layout. They were ready for a major transformation (and more space!) to make their home work for them. By adding three stories of new square footage, they got the room they needed to spread out a little more and fully embrace the fun of big family life- without stepping on each other’s toes quite so much. Some of the key features included:
- An expanded kitchen and dining room, complete with a new powder room and a full home refresh. It was a remodel dream come true!
- A luxurious new primary bedroom with an en suite, freeing up a room for their only son to enjoy. (I guess there are some perks to being the only boy)!
- Excavation beneath the new addition, creating space for a future guest suite and bathroom. (Still on the to-do list, but we know it will turn out amazing)!
- Furnish and decor! As full-service designers, we love to offer this special service! We don’t just help you remodel a space, we stick with you through every detail from construction to that final throw pillow finishing touch!
Blending Styles and Comfort As A Minneapolis Interior Designer
This project was particularly special as it was the first for Dwell & Gather Interiors. The clients, dear friends of ours, trusted our vision to create a space that blended their individual styles. We’re so glad they did! We combined the wife’s preference for cool, organic palettes and East Coast influences with the husband’s draw toward a bolder style to create a home that felt like both of them- as it should be!
The kitchen and dining area became the rightful heart of the home (it’s a cliche for a reason, okay?) This is a family that loves to host and we wanted to make sure they had plenty of space to do just that! From the custom dining table to the spacious island countertop, every detail was thoughtfully curated to serve them well for decades to come.
Trusting the Process
Every design journey has its moments of challenge, and for this project, the island pendant lights were one of those moments. When you’re living in your home during a remodel (like my wonderful clients were), it’s easy to feel a little overwhelmed by the “messy middle.” The reduced ceiling height made the pendant installation tricky, and there was a moment when switching to a smaller option seemed tempting. But that’s where trust in the process—and in the vision—comes in. I encouraged them to hold steady and stay true to the plan. At the reveal party, when they saw the original pendants—they agreed they were absolutely perfect, just as we designed!
